Ghana Visa Entry Requirements Exemptions

Below is a list of categories of persons exempt from visa entry requirements to Ghana - 2013 Update.

Ghana driver licences can be authenticated by the Consulate-General to submit to the local roads and traffic authorities.

A. Citizens from ECOWAS states by virtue of the protocol on free movement of persons, the right of residence and establishment (protocol a/p1/5/79): 

  • Benin
  • Liberia   
  • Burkina Faso
  • Mali  
  • Cape Verde 
  • Niger  
  • Cote D’Ivoire 
  • Nigeria  
  • The Gambia 
  • Senegal  
  • Guinea 
  • Sierra Leone  
  • Guinea Bissau 
  • Togo   

B. Holders of diplomatic, service or official passports:  

  • Brazil   
  • Cuba   
  • Germany
  • Hong Kong, Special Administrative Region Of * 
  • China 
  • Iran  
  • Namibia.    

N.B. Exemptions category Babove shall be for a period not  exceeding ninety (90) days from date of entry.    

C. All Nationals Of The Following Countries:   

  • Kenya
  • Lesotho
  • Malawi
  • Namibia
  • Singapore
  • South Africa **
  • Tanzania
  •  Trinidad & Tobago
  •  Uganda
  •  Zimbabwe

** Children with ordinary passports accompanying holders of diplomatic, service or official passports accredited to Ghana are exempt from entry visa requirements. 

N.B. Please note that Botswana, Egypt and Malaysia are no longer  on the list.

D. Holders Of Passports Of Regional Economic Communities In  Africa And The African Economic Community 

United Nations And Its Specialized Agencies: 

  • The World Bank 
  • African Development Bank. 

E. Airside Transit 

All persons in direct airside transit are exempt from visa  requirements.
