Republic of Ghana Passports

Passport applications must now be submitted to the Sydney Consulate-General

Application forms & process

Obtaining a new passport is a very important thing and to ensure the safety and security of your personal documents and your identity, interviews must be arranged for all passport applications.  Only in exceptional circumstances will this requirement be waived.   Please be on time for your interview and bring the documents required with you. 

If you wish, passport application forms with instructions can be sent to you in advance for you to complete prior to your interview, otherwise forms are completed at your interview.  Please send a written request and full payment for fees listed below by way of postal order or bank cheque payable to "Ghana Consulate Sydney".

Applications for passports are processed in Ghana and submitted for onward delivery at the Sydney Consulate.  Please allow at least three months for the processing of your passport application.  

Renewal of Passports

Requirements

  1. Cost of Passport Form - A$50
  2. Ghana Government Processing Fee - A$400
  3. Form must be submitted with 4 colour passport size photos (full face), taken not more than three months from the date of application.  NOTE: for your convenience, passport photos are available at the Consulate.  The fee is A$20.
  4. Old passport or copy dual citizenship card or certificate (original card/certificate must be produced for inspection)
  5. Express Post Envelope - if you wish us to post your new passport back to you.  NOTE: for your convenience the Consulate will provide an Express Post Envelope to return your documents to you.  The fee is A$30.  You are welcome to collect your new passport when it is ready.
  6. Payment of passport application fees should be made by bank cheque or postal order to "Ghana Consulate Sydney".  Applicants can also pay by cash if submitting applications in person.  No personal cheques or credit cards.

Additional Information

Some documents listed below may be required to be submitted with your application.

  • Renewal:  the old passport or copy of dual citizenship card or certificate (original card/certificate must be produced for inspection).
  • Lost Passport:  If you have lost your passport, the original Police Report issued by the Australian Police from when the passport was reported as lost.
  • Change of Name:  If you have changed your name, for example, you have married, please include the original change of name document.  This would have been issued either in Ghana when you changed your name OR if you changed your name in Australia, then the original change of name certificate issued by the state registry of births, deaths and marriages.
  • For Baby:  If the application is for a baby, applying for a passport for the first time, please note, the following original documents are required:

    • Birth Certificate of the child
    • Passport of BOTH mother and father
    • Birth Certificates of BOTH mother and father; and
    • No finger print is required on the application form (section 16), for the baby.

 Missing Passports

The loss of your passport must be reported to the local police and to the Consulate-General.  

Interviews are required for all applications for lost/missing passports - without exception.  You will need to contact the Consulate-General to arrange a suitable time for your interview.

Requirements

  1. Cost of Passport Form - A$50

  3. Form must be submitted with 4 colour passport size photos (full face), taken not more than three months from the date of application. NOTE: for your convenience, passport photos are available at the Consulate.  The fee is A$20.
  4. Original Police Report indicating loss of passport.
  5. Birth Certificate (both original and photocopy)
  6. Completed declaration forms one of which should be notarized.
  7. Photo ID (colour copy, such as driver licence)

Please note: depending on your circumstances, the Consul may require additional documents from you to provide your identity.

All passport fees are non-refundable in any circumstances.    Your passport application is at the discretion of the Consulate-General and may be refused.  It is your responsibility to provide all documents in support of your passport application; failure to do so may cause delays in processing times.
